We used our first full day to explore the road to Hana. We left at 6a in hopes to beat traffic, and for the most part we did. We chose to drive it, but I’ve heard taking a tour is great, so you don’t have the stress of driving the crazy road. We always like to go at our own pace-which is usually fast-so we like to have control. We didn’t stop at every stop, and we did use the Ride Along app. It was great. I believe it was $14 and worth it. I heard the Shaka app is also great. It took us about 10 hours, and we didn’t sit down for food anywhere.
Here are the stops we made:
Twin Falls
We stopped around mile marker 7 very quickly on the side of the road to see the rainbow eucalyptus trees. They also have them in a botanical garden along the way.
Kaumahina State Wayside Park -We stopped here for a lookout view, but also bathrooms!
Ke’anae Peninsula -We stopped and tried Sandy’s Banana bread here as well
We VERY quickly hopped out to see another water fall but didn’t hike down to it.
Wai’anapanapa State Park Black Sand Beach-you need reservations
Koki Beach-Red Sand (The prettiest beach IMO)
And we hiked the Pipiwai Trail It’s about 3.5 miles out and back to a waterfall.
