I Met My Younger Self For Coffee
Have you seen this poem going around by Jennae Cecilia? Well, it’s lovely, and it’s gone viral…it’s turned into others putting their twist on it. First of all, this is the original:
Here is my version:
I met my younger self for coffee today.
We both arrived early, sitting in our cars until the exact time we agreed to meet.
She had long, nearly black hair with a dramatic side swoop.
Mine was long too, but streaked with visible grays.
She wore a fitted band tee and dark black eyeliner.
I showed up in a flowy dress, with just mascara and chapstick.
She noticed a photo of a little girl on my phone and asked, “Oh no, you had a kid? Did you give up on your dream?”
I told her, “Both yes and no.”
She looked confused. “Wait, did we become a radio host in New York?”
I smiled and let her know our dreams had changed.
I watched her start to spiral…thinking, overthinking, wondering what we did wrong.
I reached across the table, put my hand on hers, and told her to take a deep breath.
“It’s different,” I said, “but it’s better than we dreamed.”
I also wanted to share an experience I had with a design website: www.theexpert.com
You can setup a session with designers all over the country. I did this recently to discuss my kitchen nook. Let me be clear, if you see a concept you like on Pinterest or Instagram or whatever, go for it. I was looking for some guidance because I get overwhelmed and like too many ideas. My session was $500 for 1 hour, but it finally just laid out exactly what my plan was with links to finalize what I’d been putting off for 4 years. I know that isn’t in everyone’s price range, but for me, I was happy to do it. Also, some designers are more expensive FYI.
The cushions were custom made, the blinds were ordered from Etsy -they’re chik blinds, and the paint is Benjamin Moore-Mink Violet. I did have the recommendation to get new chairs, but I decided to save money and use the ones I already had from Facebook Marketplace.
